Melba stopped by our shop one day with a Donaldson Jockey Cycle. It was something that we hadn’t heard of before. It is a very rare children’s toy that functions like a bicycle and a rocking horse at the same time. Melba got the jockey cycle as a child when she was only 4 or 5 years old. Her parents purchased it in Atlanta while her father was stationed at Fort McPherson in Georgia. The bicycle travelled all over Georgia as her father got transferred. As time passed, the toy was stored at Melba’s Mother’s house. Any child who visited could ride the jockey cycle. All 9 kids of 4 siblings, plus their kids, enjoyed riding the jockey cycle! There were probably around 30 kids in total who enjoyed it. Melba is now 79 years old and decided to get the jockey cycle restored so that she can display it in her living room and think about the wonderful memories that it brought her family.
